The Project
Brand Design

World Capital of Architecture is a new three-year program launched by UNESCO and the UIA, in which the two organisations will designate host cities for the world architecture congress for a period of 1 year. The designated city will become a global forum for discussing the pressing challenges facing our world, through the prism of culture, heritage, urban planning and architecture. The initiative is for designed cities to define themselves as open and creative spaces for discussing, exchanging and seeking solutions to the urban dilemma.
The call for this competition required the design of a logo for the WCA program and a brand identity developed around it in order to make the program recognisable and associate it with a personality that reflects its values and purpose.
The logo
The intention was to create a simple and instantly recognisable logo. The pictogram is obtained by combining the initials "WCA", through a geometric simplification. This precise and orderly structure is a reference to the functionality of the architecture, which together with the colors symbolizes the cultural diversity that comes together to contribute to the creation of a single image.
The variations allow the logo to adapt to the medium in which it is used and to the purpose. A formal use differs from presentation to the public and consequently it is necessary to differ in some details while maintaining recognizable iconography.
Identity
Fonts and colors are fundamental elements that contribute to brand recognition. The typographic character must be selected in such a way as to harmonize with the pictogram and at the same time respect all the characteristics of legibility and aesthetics for the uses it will assume.
In the same way, the colors must be chosen in a coherent way, allowing for a balanced and pleasant combination.
Additional items
The brand identity, if developed well, adapts correctly to each support and need for which it was designed, for this reason all the uses in which it will be applied are shown. The creation of mockups helps the customer to better identify the project for any actual application.
